WHEN GOD SHOWS UP

TEXT: Psalm 94:1–9, Exo.14:14 Psalm 94:1–2 – 1O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself. 2Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud.
EXO.14:14 – “The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”
INTRODUCTION: There are situations in life that seem insurmountable, difficult, tough, hard, and impossible. There are moments when human strength fails, human wisdom is insufficient, and every natural solution appears exhausted. There are also periods where it looks as if satan is having upper hands. Seasons where the wicked inflict pains on the righteous and still boast of it and it looks as if heaven is silence.
1. DEFINITION OF TERMS
A. TO SHOW UP MEANS
— to appear
— To become present
—To intervene
—To make one’s presence known.
Therefore, when we say “God shows up,” we mean that God intervenes in a situation and makes His power, presence, character, and authority evident. God does not merely enter the situation; He changes the situation.(Psalm 46:10:)–“Be still, and know that I am God.”
2. WHY THE PSAMIST CRIED TO GOD IN PSALM 94
1. THE WICKED WERE BOASTING
Psalm 94:3–4–The wicked were speaking arrogantly and boasting about their deeds.
They were behaving as though they could continue doing evil without consequences.
They even said:–“The LORD shall not see.” — Psalm 94:7–They had forgotten that God sees everything.
2. GOD’S PEOPLE WERE BEING OPPRESSED
Psalm 94:5—“They break in pieces thy people, O LORD, and afflict thine heritage.”
The people of God were being crushed and afflicted. The psalmist was essentially saying:
“Lord, how long will this continue? Arise and intervene.”
3. THE VULNERABLE WERE BEING MISTREATED
Psalm 94:6–The wicked were attacking the widow, stranger, and fatherless. God is deeply concerned about people who are vulnerable and oppressed.
4. THE WICKED APPEARED TO BE PROSPERING WITHOUT CONSEQUENCES
Psalm 94:3–4–They were proud, arrogant, and seemingly successful in their wickedness.
“How long, LORD, shall the wicked triumph?” — Psalm 94:3–But the psalmist knew something important:(God may be silent for a season, but God’s silence does not mean God’s absence).
5. “SHOW THYSELF” IS A CRY FOR DIVINE INTERVENTION
Psalm 94:1 says:–“O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself.”—-There are moments when you need to say:
“Lord, show Yourself in my situation.”
Show Yourself in my family.
Show Yourself in my ministry.
Show Yourself in my finances.
Show Yourself in my battles.
Show Yourself in my health.
Show Yourself in my calling.
Show Yourself against every opposition to Your purpose.
When God shows up, the situation cannot remain the same.
3. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN GOD SHOWS UP?
1. HE TURNS DIFFICULT CASES AROUND FOR GOOD. Mark 10:27, Luke 1:37, Luke 18:27–“The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”
2. HE OPENS ANCIENT GATES AND DOORS…
Psalm 24:7–10,Revelation 3:8,1 Corinthians 16:9 –“Behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it.”….
3. THE POWER OF THE ENEMY IS EXPOSED
God’s intervention can reveal that what looked powerful was actually limited.
4. GOD’S PEOPLE RECEIVE DELIVERANCE
God does not only reveal His power; He also delivers His people according to His will.PSALM 34
4. BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF WHERE GOD SHOWED UP
A. GOD SHOWED UP AT MOUNT SINAI–EXO.20:18-21,DEUT.5:23-27…To validate the authenticity of the ten commandment given to Moses for the children of Israel..God showed up by allowing elemental forces to announce that the monarch of Zion was coming …And all the people saw the Thunderings, and the lightening, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it,they removed, and stood afar off. (EXO.20:18-21)
B. WHEN GOD SHOWED UP, GENERATIONAL DEPT ARE SETTLED…EXO.11:2-3—After the death every first born in Egypt and Pharaoh asked them to go….God instructed that every man, woman should go their neighbour and borrow or demand for Jewels of Silver, Jewels of Gold and Clothing…This was the method God used to recover the wages of Israel for 430years in Egypt.. There are wages or inheritance that satan tactically denied your great grandfather, grandfather and your father…heaven release them to you to today.
C. HEZEKIAH AND SENNACHERIB…. GOD SHOWED UP in (2 kings 19:35) when Sennacherib had threatened Jerusalem and mocked the living God and Hezekiah prayed and God sent an angel to kill 185,000 Armies of assyrians before morning.( Isaiah 37:36 and 2 Chronicles 32:21).
D. KORAH, DATHAN AND ABIRAM — NUMBERS 16:19–34—Korah and those with him rebelled against Moses and Aaron. They challenged the leadership God had established.
Moses declared that God would make it clear who belonged to Him.Then God demonstrated His authority. Numbers 16:31–32 records that the ground opened and swallowed them.
E. NEBUCHADNEZZAR — DANIEL 4
Nebuchadnezzar became proud because of his greatness and kingdom. He said: “Is not this great Babylon, that I have built…” — Daniel 4:30
He glorified himself instead of recognizing God.
Then God intervened. Nebuchadnezzar was humbled and eventually recognized the sovereignty of God.–Daniel 4:37:
“And those that walk in pride he is able to abase.”
F. JOSHUA — JOSHUA 10:6–14
When the Gibeonites were attacked, they called Joshua for help.Joshua went to battle, and God intervened supernaturally.
Joshua 10:11:“The LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them…”Then something extraordinary happened.
Joshua 10:12–13 records that Joshua asked for the sun and moon to stand still, and God answered.
CONCLUSION
The psalmist saw wickedness, oppression, arrogance, and injustice. But instead of giving up, he called upon God:“Show thyself.”When God shows up, He does not come empty-handed
There are battles you cannot fight by your own strength. There are gates/doors you cannot open by your own ability. when God shows up, His power will be seen, His name will be glorified, and His purpose will prevail.
