THE HELPER OF THE HELPLESS

Topic: THE HELPER OF THE HELPLESS
Text: 2Kings 4:1-7; Psalm 116:6-16; John 10:3
Definition & Introduction
A. Helper
1. A helper is a person who helps another person or group with a job they are doing.
2. A helper is somebody who is there for you when you need help, he or she stands by you and make sure you don’t fail but succeed.
3. A helper makes your dream and vision come true.
4. A helper helps you to attain your purpose in life.
5. A helper sees to it that you do not fail no matter what.
6. A helper stand by you even when things are tough.
B. Helpless
1. One who is unable to defend oneself or to act without help.
2. One who needed someone to depend on.
3. Someone who needs another person’s help.
Understand that God is the help of the helpless. When we turn to Him in times of need, we receive mercy and find His grace. If we need it, God can meet it.
What to note:
1. Men who get help are often those who refuse to be silent.
Men only get help when they cry for help. The first law of help is never keep quiet.
2. Always learn to move in faith.
One thing I have seen is that people’s faith moves God to instant help. The woman with the issue of blood said “For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.” (Matt 9:24). She pressed through the crowd inspired essentially by faith. And she got a response from the Lord. She received her help.
3. Never play with Prayer
Why is it hard for Christians to understand that God wants us to pray not complain? Children of God spend several hours complaining and bemoaning their dire conditions without falling on their knees. We should understand that it is only by praying that makes God to answer not by complaining.
Practical examples
1. The story of Israel and pharaoh in Egypt.
Exodus 5:2 – And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.
2. Story of David and Goliath – 1Samuel 17:41-50
41 And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him.
42 And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.
43 And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give you into our hands.
48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came, and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.
50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
3. Story of Jehosaphat and the Three Nations against him. (Ammonites , Moabites, Mount Sire).
2 Chronicles 20:22-23
22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.
23 For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.
4. The story of the woman with the Issue of Blood.
Luke 8:43-48
43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
44 Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.
47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.
48 And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.
